Genesis 2:24 says, “This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”
Ephesians 5:31, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
So, the Bible tells us that we cannot follow what the world of man says about marriage because man did not create marriage. In mathematics, 1+1=2. This is a true statement, but in a covenant marriage 1+1=1.
Sometimes, a marriage becomes one-sided. So, you ask, what does it mean one-sided? Well, have you ever felt like you were doing all the work to make the marriage good and better, but your other half didn’t really care? I know I have. It’s exhausting!!!
Most marriages do not start out like that. The two people are all focused on each other and doing things together. They are trying to out serve the other. They pay bills together, they work in the yard together (if they have a yard…lol), they clean house and do laundry together. All things that are necessary to keep everyone functioning in this life.
Then life happens over a period of time and one person begins to check out. The other person keeps working harder and harder, but it isn’t working out the way they had planned. The marriage is not working.
Is it salvageable? YES, absolutely! Where do we begin? We go back to our maker, GOD! In James 1:5, it reads, “If you need wisdom, ask, our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
Now, you need to give it all to Him! You have to let go of all that you are doing to make your marriage work and give it all to Him. Bring all your concerns, challenges and pain to God.
Next, ask Him to lead you. Ask Him to guide your words and actions. Ask Him to give you Hope, not in you or your spouse, but in Him. This way you are open to Him and He can work in and through you.
Do not worry about your spouse. Let God take care of them. AND HE WILL! Prayer is our most valuable weapon/tool that we have been given. If you don’t know what to say or ask for, just follow what Jesus tells us to do in Matthew 6:9-13: “In this manner, therefore, we pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.”
I hope this helps you and your marriage! You can always go to our Prayer Wall and add a prayer request. It does not need to be about marriage or a relationship. It can be about anything! It would be our pleasure to pray and stand with you!
If you need to talk with someone, please reach out to info@unitymarriageministry.org. It would bless and honor us to speak with you! REMEMBER:
