Pentecost and Marriage

Did you know that Pentecost is a Greek word that is derived from the word penta, meaning “fiftieth day.” It is 50 days after Passover. (taken from the book ‘Fulfilling the Feasts of Israel’ by Velda Stearns).

Pentecost is always held on a Sunday, the first day of the week. This is when the Holy Spirit was given to humans. This marked the covenant between Jesus Christ and His Bride.

Marriage is like Pentecost, in that, this is when the Bride and Groom create a covenant to each other and the Holy Trinity: God, the Father; Jesus Christ, the Son; and the Holy Spirit.

Being in covenant is not something to be taken lightly! When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, your temple (your body) needs to be clean. That is why saying the Sinner’s Pray is so important! I have written it here, in case you need it, but remember, it is not just for unbelievers, it is also to be used for rededicating your life to God, just like renewing your marriage vows. So, make sure you keep it handy.

SINNERS PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I know You died on the cross for my sins and I ask for forgiveness. I know You are the Living God and rose from the dead. So, today I am answering Your knock on the door of my heart, turning from my sin, and asking You to be my Lord and Saviour from this day forward. Thank You for saving me. I pray this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. Amen

Maybe even find your marriage vows and reread them to remind yourself of the promises you made to your spouse before God when you came into covenant!

Also, just as a reminder, think before you speak. Our tongues have the power of life and death in them. If you are not careful, you will have to go before God and repent for what or how you spoke to your spouse.

So, now that you have searched yourself and been forgiven of your sins, the Holy Spirit can teach you the Fruits of the Spirit. They are found in Galations 5:22-26 NIV:

“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance (patience), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Learning how to operate in the fruits is key to your marriage and pleasing to your Lord. It also keeps you in covenant with the Holy Trinity and your marriage!

I hope this helps you and your marriage! You can always go to our Prayer Wall and add a prayer request. It does not need to be about marriage or a relationship. It can be about anything! It would be our pleasure to pray and stand with you!
