Do you know who Pinocchio is? This has been an infamous story about a wooden boy created by a master woodcarver. The story tells about how he came to life and his nose would grow longer every time he told a lie.
Did you know that Jesus called lying Satan’s native language? Jesus says it in John 8:44 NIV, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is not truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for his is a liar and the father of lies.”
I was reading one of the Bible Plans today in the ‘Holy Bible’ app when I came across this!
Stop and think……have you been lying? To whom are you telling lies? Your spouse, your children, your boss, your friends and family?
If you continue lying, you will lose the ability to tell the difference between truth and lie. People lie because they don’t want to take the responsibility for their actions. They don’t want to suffer the consequences!
Do you realize you are also lying to Jesus and damaging your relationship with Him?
When you lie to someone, you are lying to yourself. You are putting your relationship(s) in jeopardy. Is the lie worth your marriage? Is it worth losing your spouse/kids/family/friends?
You cannot control other people’s tongues, but you can control yours. Self-Control is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. We are all sinners and cannot control ourselves, that is why Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit. He will guide you and help you. Before you speak a word, ask the Holy Spirit if this is what He wants you to say!
Your children look up to you. You are the one setting an example for them to follow. So, be mindful of what comes out of your mouth.
Let God’s love for you show you the truth. If you have lied to someone, come clean. Admit your mistake. Repent and ask for forgiveness. If someone does not forgive, that is on them. In the grand scheme of things, you will become a better person and your life will be better!
“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” Colossians 3:9-10 NIV.
