“Power under control”, what does that mean? Well, I thought about it and asked the Holy Spirit. I got nothing! So, I waited. Then words started appearing in my mind. Words like self-control, power, authority, freedom, my heart, key. So, I started playing around with these words in my head and they kind of all fell into place. Here’s what I got:
The Fruits of the Spirit are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. Once the Holy Spirit takes up residence within you, He teaches you how to walk in His fruits. You, thereby, gain freedom from the world as you walk in the power and authority given to you as a son or daughter of the most high God. The key to unlock all of this is your heart.
When you stop to think about this and meditate on it, it becomes clearer and clearer. Jesus was God born of flesh to save us from ourselves. So, He was the highest POWER but He kept it under control. He came and taught us about love and that is what we are to teach others! LOVE IS POWER!
Marriage follows the same principles. In order to have a blessed marriage, we must look to the Holy Spirit to help us. We need the fruits, in order to, deal with the day to day.
In Matthew 11:25-30 NIV, Jesus says, “25 At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. 26 Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way! 27 My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
I looked up what it meant to “take up my yoke” and learned that it means to become a disciple. These scriptures are the INVITATION from Jesus to his disciples.
First, He says COME, then He says TAKE and finally He says LEARN. To COME means to trust Him. To TAKE means we go deeper with Him by faith where we find rest, the deeper rest of surrender and obedience. Then we LEARN as we go deeper with Him. This is a process. As we depend on Him and trust Him more, we discover that life is simplified and unified around the person of Jesus Christ. This INVITATION IS FOR ALL PEOPLE, not just the Israelites.
This is a MUST in marriage. As you go deeper, your trust and faith become stronger. As you grow, you gain more confidence, and your marriage becomes strengthened. As disciples, we don’t need worldly possessions, all we need is Jesus Christ and our needs will be met. We all have assignments and as long as we carry them out, then the treasures will be stored up in Heaven waiting for you when you return home!
I hope this helps you and your marriage! You can always go to our Prayer Wall and add a prayer request. It does not need to be about marriage or a relationship. It can be about anything! It would be our pleasure to pray and stand with you!
