PRAYING TOGETHER

One of the most important things that you can do as a couple is to ‘Pray Together’.

You and your spouse were raised differently. Maybe your wife was raised in a non-religious home. Maybe it was the husband. No worries! What matters is that the two of you set the rules of your marriage and your family as to what both of you want.

Praying together makes you stronger as a couple; unifies the family; sets an example for the children; blesses God. It, also, keeps you from going to sleep with anger. The Bible tells us never to go to sleep angry. The scripture is found in Ephesians 4:26-27. It reads: 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil.

The enemy only wants to divide you. Going to sleep angry gives him something to work with and he will keep bringing it up until a wedge is driven between you. Give it to Jesus and talk about it with your spouse.

It’s challenging sometimes and God knows that, but by talking it out, you can find a common ground and understand what the other was trying to say. The Holy Spirit is right there with you! He will guide you if you allow Him to. Taking your anger to God helps both of you. I find that if I am angry with my husband, praying helps me to look at things from a different perspective. I calm down faster and takes the emotion out of the situation. It allows me sit still and listen to what God wants to teach me. Notice, I said teach me.

Our Father is always talking to us and trying to teach us how He wants things to go. If we are holding on to anger, resentment, unforgiveness….we can’t hear Him. So, when you lay it at His feet, He can help you to understand and that is a WIN-WIN for both of you!

Maybe, start today, praying together. Do it before there is any conflict and you will be equipped to listen more and really hear what is being said by your spouse. You can start small in your prayers like praying for the family. This is something we all can do!  It will be easier for God to help you when things go wrong.

I hope this helps you and your marriage! You can always go to our Prayer Wall and add a prayer request. It does not need to be about marriage or a relationship. It can be about anything! It would be our pleasure to pray and stand with you!
