Jesus was a simple man. He didn’t own a house. He didn’t own things or possessions. He stored his treasures in Heaven.
A new year is coming! Let’s start thinking about the things we have. Is it something you really need? When was the last time you used it?
If you haven’t used it in the last 6 months unless it’s summer versus winter clothes and shoes, then maybe it’s time to get rid of it!
When my husband and I moved in with my Mother over 5 years ago to help take care of her due to her dementia, I had to leave a house full of stuff! My oldest son lives there right now and he uses whatever is there. I do not mind. It’s stuff! I go through my closets like every 6 months because if I have stuff that either I don’t like or it doesn’t fit right anymore, I get rid of it. Our closets are small. We don’t have room to keep lots of stuff. I have packed extra throws and blankets because I don’t have room for them.
My Mom has all kinds of stuff that she has no clue about. She keeps empty bags and boxes; she keeps old medicine; she buys stuff she already has because she can’t remember that she has them. It’s very hard. I try to go around the house and get rid of things that are empty but I cannot let her see me do it. Otherwise, she gets upset and when that happens, it accelerates what is going on in her brain.
So consider throwing some things out, donating to the homeless, giving to second-hand stores. A lot of donations are tax deductible. SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE! Be content with what you have. You will be surprised how much lighter you feel and so will the family without all that extra stuff around!!! When you declutter your life, changes happen and the Joy of the Lord surrounds you!
“My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.” Psalms 131:1-3 NIV
