Here are 5 “Daily Do’s” to start your marriage off right:
1 ~ Set Your Eyes on Jesus. Take your focus off of yourself and your spouse. We should all have the eyes of our heart and our mind fixed on Jesus. He is our Lord and we are to surrender to Him. As long as we have our eyes on our Savior, our hearts will do what is right because Jesus is love.
“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him He endured the cross, scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 NIV
2 ~ Be grateful and thankful praising the Lord’s name. Start each day thanking the Lord for this day. Praise and worship Him as He created you. Do this morning, noon and at night before you go to sleep.
“I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Psalms 69:30 NIV
3 ~ Spend time with the Lord daily. It’s preferable to give the first fruits to the Lord which in this context means when you wake up, spend the first part of your day with Jesus. Now, this may mean you have to wake up earlier. But Jesus should always come first. Then, you can spend time throughout your day as it progresses…like on your break, at lunch, etc…just when you have a couple of extra minutes. He will get so much joy in that time! Be sure you are reading the word and praying every day as part of your routine. it’s very important!
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thrists for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalms 42:1-2 NIV
4 ~ Pay attention to your thoughts. Don’t let your mind wander haphazardly. We are to keep a careful watch over our minds think on truth, things that are holy and good. In this way, we are less likely to let the enemy sneak in.
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV
5 ~ Always put your spouse before yourself. Jesus taught us to serve each other just as He served others when He walked on this earth. We need to honor our spouse and show them respect. This tells your spouse that you truly care about them. It shows them the kind of love that Jesus showed us!
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4 NIV
As you can see, there is scripture for the way we are to live. These are just a few examples of Starting Marriage Right”.
