Most of us women do not like the word “SUBMISSION”. It took me a while to understand that what the world thinks submission means and what it means to God are two very different things!

First, the word submission, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary means to yield oneself to the authority or will of another: surrender. When looked at through the world’s eyes, most people think in terms of a slave or male dominance; power; control over another person.

Now, according to the Bible, submission simply means to willfully deploy oneself in service to their partner. Basically, to serve your spouse. 

If you look at the life of Jesus, he served everyone by healing, loving and delivering them from the sins of this world!

So, once I realized that, biblically, I was to submit to my husband by serving him just as Christ served us when he walked this earth, I was able to work with my spouse to honor God with our marriage!

According to the Bible, the husband has the responsibility for leadership in his home and the wife submits to him as the leader of the family. The husband, also, must love his wife just as Christ loved the Church.

Ephesians 5:25-27 says, “25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”

Therefore, wives, no need to get upset with the word submission. You only need to look at it through God’s eyes! Once you change your perception, you will be able to see and honor what God has put together!
