God made wives to be ‘a helper’ to their husband as it says in Genesis 2:18 NLT: The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.”
One of the most important ways a wife can help her husband is to pray for him. God designed man to achieve a purpose here on earth. He, then, formed woman as a human partner to help him attain and complete the purpose God set before him.
So, when a wife prays for her husband, God pays attention to her prayers. She comes to the throne of God like it says in Hebrews 4:16 NIV: ‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’
Now, God listens to everyone’s prayers, of course, but a wife, generally speaking, is asking God to help her husband. She is not focused on herself, but on the man whom God has given her to love, to encourage, to protect the family and most importantly, to seek God for instruction on everything first.
In Proverbs 31: 10, 25-26, 28-9 NLT, it says: 10 Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. 26 When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.
28 Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her; 29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all.”
These verses show that a praying wife is precious in God’s eyes. As long as her heart remains true to God, amazing things happen! The praying wife understands that God will help the man whose wife is praying for him because she is fulfilling the role of helper that God created her to be!
If you have not been praying for your husband, today is a perfect time to start.
In the movie, War Room, the lead actress is Priscilla Shirer and she portrays a Praying Wife. In one part of the movie, her husband is contemplating cheating on her. In fact, he goes so far as to ask a woman out to dinner and all references point to adultery. It has been a rough ride in their marriage, but the wife goes to God and she gets on her knees praying to God not to let him break their vows! She cried out to God and HE managed the situation! God intervened to protect their marriage! He will do the same for you!!!!
So, God created both man and woman in His image just as it tells in Genesis.2:26 NLT when it says, Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
My husband always says that I am his wisdom. That is very comforting to me. As his wife, I do my best to support him in everything. I am very thankful that God put in me a servant heart. Sometimes, though, I do not feel like serving him. Many of us wives feel this way….lol! Especially, if our man is not being very kind to us. So, as I mumble under my breath, the Holy Spirit starts nudging me. Then I hear or see something from God that tells me I am in the wrong. When I receive these revelations, the Holy Spirit reminds me that my husband has limitations since he is disabled. He gives me the strength and the patience to overlook his faults. In this way, the love I show to my husband by forgiving his unkindness exhibits what Jesus did for me/us. 1 Peter 4:8 NLT says, Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
The last scripture I will leave you with is John 15:7 NIV where Jesus is speaking: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
I have added a couple of short prayers to help you get started. Then add what you want to ask God for and be specific. Although He already knows what you are going to say, He still wants you to ask Him!
Dear Heavenly Father, I come before your throne to ask for Your help with my husband. I don’t know what to do, but I trust You! You are in control, and I commit my husband to You right now…. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Dear God, I thank You for unity in my life. I pray against any division in my marriage, in my family and in my relationships. I repent for any instances where I have had any fault in creating division amongst your children….In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I hope this helps you and your marriage! You can always go to our Prayer Wall and add a prayer request. It does not need to be about marriage or a relationship. It can be about anything! It would be our pleasure to pray and stand with you!
If you need to talk with someone, please reach out to info@unitymarriageministry.org. It would bless and honor us to speak with you! REMEMBER:
